BABY & LIFE
What’s in a name?
Is there anything more personal than a name? Parents spend a lot of time and research to choose the perfect name for their perfect little bundle.
There’s cool names, weird names, celeb names (I mean what’s up with Apple and Pilot Inspektor) – yes it’s actor Jason Lee poor kid and then
there’s forbidden names. Yes really! Like Prince William and Nutella in France, Adolf Hitler in Deutschland and Talula does the Hula in New Zealand.
Yes it’s true, you can google it!
With Minki… I just knew… FYI my dad calls me Linki, and my mom’s name is Mariette – so we changed the L to an M and that’s how
Minki Mariette was chosen.
And you must admit Minki and Linki on the go sounds quite cool…
I didn’t know what I was looking for when I started planning Minki’s nursery, but I knew I wanted
her name to be the centre of the room.
This may not be the most important part when planning a nursery but for me it was – it’s her room, her happy place, so
I wanted to put her name on it!
My 6 steps to create the perfect nursery:
1. Choose a crib
Choose a pretty one but make sure it adheres to safety standards. A Vintage crib may be beautiful but is it safe?
2. The changing table
Let’s talk dirty! Newborns can POO up to 8 times A DAY!
Choose a changing table that one day (when kiddo is off to college), can be turned into a bookcase or dresser.
Tiny people = a LOT OF STUFF! It’s diapers, wipes, earbuds, all sorts of creams, shampoos, blankets, toys, bottles and the list goes on…
Make sure you have enough storage space otherwise your once pretty nursery is going to become a contender on the next Clean house episode.
4. Nursing chair
Hours of breastfeeding and before you can say “solids” you’re gonna sit in that same chair, reading baby’s favourite story over and over and over…
Bottom line: make sure it’s comfy because you’re going to spend a lot of time there!
5. Prettify everything
There are no rules here! Fill this space with what makes you happy! Too much floral? Pink overdose? DON’T CARE!
Only rule: if you love it, put it in!
6. Put a name on it
When I found Jen, from It’s a sign…it truly was like a sign!
My brief to Jen was simple: less is not more, romantic, feminine, floral and oh-so-girly!
