I remember the first time I had to clip Minki’s nails. I mean how hard can it be? I’ve done this a million times, but I never ever realised clipping teeny tiny finger nails is so damn difficult.
I was focused on her tiny hands, wiping the sweat from my face. Images of a sad little girl with only four fingers, waving goodbye at the school gate, flashed before my eyes, all because her Mom misjudged the nail clipper.
Needless to say my husband took over.
There’s a lot of useless baby products out there. You can see my list of the 10 Weirdest (and most useless baby products), but then there’s some amazing products, designed to help (freaked-out-first-time-mamas) – like me!
The 4 items that made Motherhood a Little Less Terrifying:
1. Safety 1st Healthcare Kit
Babies tend to get sick, a lot. Safety 1st Healthcare Kit is tested and approved by hospitals. It consists of a Digital Thermometer, Nasal Aspirator, Toothbrush, Medicine Dropper, Alcohol Wipes, Emergency Contact Card and a reversible Travel Case.
But wait mommy, you can’t just run out and grab the first thermometer. A Good thermometer is a must have in any Mom’s arsenal, but picking the right one can be daunting. There’s rectal, forehead, armpit and ear – to name a few. Although rectal is the most accurate, it’s kind of uncomfortable and I’m not investing in one anytime soon.
The under-the-tongue digital thermometer from Safety 1st check all the boxes: Non-invasive, safe, easy to use and it gives general accurate readings.
Babies come with a lot of responsibility and wait for it… snotties!
The nasal aspirator will become your new best friend. It’s a small device that uses suction to draw snot from your baby’s nose. It’s incredibly easy to use and you can have your baby breathing normally in as little as thirty seconds. It’s a super snot sucker! #momlife
I’m not saying it’s going to be easy, but you are responsible for brushing baby’s teeth. The easy grip handle on Safety 1st toothbrush makes brushing a breeze.
Keep it all together in a pretty reversible travel case. We do not leave the house without it!
2. Safety 1st Essential Grooming Kit
This kit comes with a steady grip nail clipper! Yay, maybe I can start clipping Minki’s nails after all.
This really is the easiest way to keep all babies grooming supplies in one place. A Soft grip brush and comb, toothbrush, baby scissors and a printed travel case, to travel in style.
Now you have one less thing to worry about! And your baby will be camera ready at all times. #momswithcameras
Baby is now groomed to perfection, but you know the saying:
“Silence is golden, unless you have a toddler, then it’s just suspicious.”
3. Safety 1st Furniture Corner Guards
Maybe Minki is still finding her feet (literally speaking), but it seems like no matter her age, from the moment she started crawling she was bumping into things.
Everything became a hazard, our vintage coffee table, the dining table, Daddy’s beloved braai.
You name it, she bumped it.
Before you sell all your furniture on OLX, try these furniture corner guards from Safety 1st.
It softens the bump, I get to keep my vintage coffee table and I’m a great Mom. Score!
Oh, and it’s see through which means although your house will not be featured in House & Home anytime soon, it still looks relatively nice.
4. Safety 1st Double Door Slide Lock
You know what’s not a pretty picture? Your almost two year old peeking out at you through a lacy g-string, nicely positioned on her head.
Yes, it happened and No, I don’t know why babies always put g-strings on their head.
What I do know: Babies love unpacking. I don’t know why, but they just do. Minki would spend hours unpacking all the pots and pans in the kitchen, her diapers and of course my underwear.
Anyway, it’s cute for the first few days and then it gets exhausting.
Luckily I found the double door slide lock from Safety 1st. It fits knobs and handles up to 5,5’ apart.
It keeps your private stuff, well private!
So long little packer!
With these items in your arsenal, Motherhood might just be more amazing than terrifying…

Definetly the health kit . My lg is lately sick so it would be awesome to keep all the goodies in one place.
Shared the post on Facebook. Wow so many amazing and super essential products for our precious little ones but if I had to choose my favourite one it would be the safety 1st health kit especially love the digital under the tongue thermometer as no baby loves a rectal or ear thermometer and with all the wriggling you don’t even end up getting an a curate reading. The nasal aspirator is also fantastic as we know first hand how terrible it is to have a baby with a blocked nose as she was born with a slight issue and we on a daily basis have to use nasal spray and occasionally suck it.
Safety 1st Essential Grooming Kit – the nail clipper looks like you can hold it like a pro. I have a teenie tiny nail clipper and it is a mission to clip nails with such a small clipper… phew… drops of sweat forming on my forehead just thinking of it. Sharing on Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp

I like the Healthcare Kit … As a firsttime grandma I would like to have a Healthcare Kit. When I was a firsttime mom we did not have all this luxury items and we have to struggle when that runny little noses.
This could be a lifesaver for me.
Shared on Facebook! The grooming kit is our favorite especially for the nail clipper, best one to cut those tiny nails plus the handle makes its so easy. We (11month baby and I) would love to win, especially if there are door locks in as little just started walking and is opening drawers and cupboards, have already jammed some fingers in drawers and the safety first will make it possible to keep the drawers closed and tiny fingers safe!
Safety 1st Double Door Slide Lock because my son loves unpacking everything and this will prevent him from opening a cupboard with the cleaning materials in
