I’m probably the only Mom whose 3 year old still has her cot and changing table in her room (nursery). Transforming Minki’s room has been on my to-do list for a year! And I just haven’t got round to it… But we are soon welcoming a new addition to the family so I decided to knuckle down and just do it!
Once again Pinterest images haunted me, but I stayed true to myself (and the budget) and created a lovely space for little Miss Minki with some help from Volpes (+ you can WIN a R1000 voucher from Volpes) – Enter at the bottom of the post.
How to transform your nursery into a toddlers room
(Why do they have to grow up so fast)?
1. Ditch the crib
Duh! We had a bed in the room, so in our case the crib was just standing there. And worst of all, she never slept in her beautiful crib – she preferred her (unsightly) camping cot.
2. Update the bedding
This was the best part! Volpes was so kind to sponsor Minki’s bedding. I had a marvelous time browsing through all their beautiful designs as well as their new kiddies’ range. Check it out HERE, it’s to die for!
What I love so much about Volpes bedding is that I don’t have to change the bedding again in a year’s time. Yes, unicorns are great and they are definitely trending, but I can guarantee you that by the time Minki turns 4, I will have replaced the unicorn bedding and (again) spent money on something more age appropriate. I’ve chosen the Jane cover, but also check out the beautiful Becky print!
Ps: Changing the bedding is such an easy but dramatic change!
3. Add a worktable
Little kids love being creative! How pretty is this baby pink table with matching blue chairs? Perfect for drawing, painting and letting kiddo’s inner Picasso shine!
4. Update the artwork
Showcase your mini’s creative genius! A picture collage is a great way to show off her arty side and it makes for the best (affordable) décor! I bought some frames, inserted the masterpieces and got Daddy to do the dirty work.
5. Create fantasy corners
Blame the kindergarten teacher in me, but I love creating little corners to boost creativity.
Corner 1: The Teepee Tent – The pink and white tee-pee tent is such a great addition to any kid’s room. It’s perfect for playing, reading and sleeping!
Corner 2: The Kitchen – Say hello to your mini master chef! You are never too young to start learning how to cook!
This pink kitchen is actually my dream kitchen. Minki spends hours dishing up food and of course washing the dishes in her cute pink kitchen.
6. Storage storage storage
No matter how pretty your room looks, it will soon turn into a warzone. Why? Because kids have lots of stuff. This vintage white shelf is perfect for storing all kinds of things. CD’s, books and toys do not have to be seen! It will just ruin your perfect room!
+ Add a cute laundry basket (because every fashionista needs one)!
7. Restyle things
Do not be afraid to let go of the baby goods! I rearranged things on her bookcase to paint of a picture of her life today.
I replaced the baby monitor nightlight for a cute spotted dog nightlight and also added a pink kitty reading lamp (to read 200 stories before she finally falls asleep)!
Floating shelves became the new home for her beloved Lola Bunny and her Unicorn piggy bank.

Tough choice as both can be great fun. The teepee is more adventurous, the kitchen is more educational as well. At the end I would go with teepee as my kids are brought up camping and we already play kitchen often. My son’s favourite area in any store is if there is tents up somewhere and think my little girl will be the same. The fantasy ideas with a teepee can be endless.
